The Centre provides information and carries out documentary and research activities relating to theatre, radio, film and television. A specialised library, a large theatre archive and a film archive with a video library are available to students and other users.
The collection comprises 36,000 books and magazines, 120,000 photographs, 8,000 films and videos, 88.000 theatre articles, 600 pieces of stage and costume design, etc. The
online database eKumba of Centre of Theatrology and Filmology offers the possibility to browse the complete archives of the AGRFT Videotheque, FTV Department archive and up to now entered units from CTF AGRFT Archive.
In conducting its research work, the Centre collaborates with other departments within the Academy as well as domestic and foreign institutions. The projects completed in the last decade were: Historical Transformation in the
Shaping of National Theatres (1994-1996),
Framing in Cinematography (1994-1996),
Theoretical and Informational Basis of Slovenian Theatre History (1998-1999),
Fundamental Research on Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Slovenia (2000-2003) and
Dynamic of Changes in 20. Century Slovenian Theatre (2007-2009).
Most of the projects are sponsored by the Slovenian Research Agency.

The archive and mediatheque collects, processes, saves and protects archive and documentary material to be used for pedagogical purposes by AGRFT staff and by external users. This material represents both a resource for academic-research work and an important part of the cultural heritage.
The main facets of the archive and mediatheque
1. Archive of artistic, research and pedagogic work at AGRFT since 1945:
iconotheque (draft ideas for sets and costumes for AGRFT stagings, photographic collection)
work of the students of AGRFT (seminar papers, degree dissertations, specialisation dissertations, masters dissertations, doctoral theses)
printed material (reviews, theatre posters, flyers, theatre leaflets, awards, etc.)
cinematheque and videotheque of the theatrical, film and TV productions of AGRFT
This material is primarily connected to the teaching process at AGRFT, but also represents an interesting resource with regard to cultural heritage, as our students, teachers and other staff have included (or still include) such important artists and public figures as Josip Vidmar, Branko Gavella, Bojan Stupica, Pino Mlakar, Slavko Jan, Mile Korun and Marija Vera.
2. Reference material on Slovene, European and World film:
phonotheque
cinematheque and videotheque
world iconotheque (visual material on the history of European theatre)
Slovene iconotheque (visual material on the history of Slovene theatre)
documentation on stagings in Slovene theatres (flyers, press cuttings, theatre leaflets and so on).
The reference collection is intended to inform, educate and assist research by Slovene cultural circles.
3. Legacies and manuscript material on the history of Slovene theatre and film:
legacy of the Partisan theatre during and after World War II
legacy of Emil Kralj (still awaiting detailed analysis)
legacy of Marija Vera
legacy of Ema Starc
donation by Fran Žižek (shooting scripts)
donation by France Brenk (original films by Karl Grossmann)
FIRT (International Federation for Theatre Research) archive: lectures, correspondence, manuscripts, etc.
SIBMAS (International Directory of Performing Arts Collections and Institutions) archive: lectures, correspondence, manuscripts, etc.
Most archive material is kept at AGRFT.
Since 2004 there has been available the theatre and film web portal
e-Kumba, offering users access to a catalogue of collections of materials to which is gradually being added details about existing and new materials.

The reading room is open Mon. to Fri. 7.00 - 14.00
The library was founded at the same time as the academy and its role is to collect, process and store material relating to theatre, radio, film and television: it is thus a specialist higher education library for these fields.
Borrowing conditions are set out in the Rules of the Centre for Theatre and Film Studies. Since 1994 we have been connected to the electronic COBISS system and offer our users a range of services (e.g. renewals, reservations and ordering of materials over the Internet).
There is Internet access in the reading room via three computers and connections for laptops, a printer and a scanner. Users can also make use of the reference collection and look at journals and theatre leaflets, while members have remote access to the databases of the libraries NUK, IZUM and CTK.
Library material
The library contains only books and typescripts; videotheque and phonotheque material is available as part of film documentation, and iconotheque and other material as part of theatrical documentation..
Books
The library is well stocked with academic literature, we have original dramatic works in translation and in the original, and we also acquire books indirectly connected with our field that are required by students for their studies (e.g. psychology, philosophy, music).
Regular publications
We carry a rich selection of journals, mainly from the fields of film and theatre. The range and number of journals in stock is listed in a catalogue and the details are also available via computer.

List of Slovene journals
Degree dissertations
Since 1996 the library has kept student degree dissertations and recorded them in the COBISS system. Degree dissertations from before this year are kept in the archive. The borrowing of these works is only possible with the written permission of the author.
Theatre leaflets
We have been collecting theatre leaflets since we were first established and now have a relatively complete collection from the main theatrical institutions (SNG Drama Ljubljana, SNG Maribor, SLG Celje, SSG Trst, MGL Ljubljana, Prešernovo gledališče Kranj, PDG Nova Gorica, SMG Ljubljana), from the opera houses in Ljubljana and Maribor, and from some amateur theatres. Leaflets are not lent out but can be looked at in the reading room.
Typescripts
Since May 2004 there are 4000 typescripts available in the library.
