1st Cycle Study Programmes
- Stage Acting
The duration of the study programme is 4 years (240 ECTS credits). The syllabus combines a wide range of courses and subjects that will enable our graduates to acquire competences needed to start an independent career of a stage actor. The study programme aims to combine the specifics of the Slovenian cultural sphere and its tradition with contemporary art trends and practices.
- Dramaturgy and Performing Arts
The duration of the study programme is 3 years (180 ECTS credits). Its aim is to provide the 1st cycle students with the necessary academic knowledge in theatre studies to enable them to carry out practical tasks of dramaturges in theatre houses and similar institutions, such as radio, film and television companies. Likewise, it will provide them with the basis to carry out research and archive jobs in theatres and similar institutions. They will also acquire basic skills for writing various types of stage plays, art fiction (genre drama), critical writing for professional publications and reviews for mass media.
- Theatre Directing
The duration of the study programme is 4 years (240 ECTS credits). The students will learn basic principles of directing in performing arts, the structure of directing, and discover the criteria of the demanding, formally and content-wise precisely structured format of a stage play. The students will develop their own personal directing style and production ideas and learn how to time their interventions when working with actors. They will learn to recognize the creative principle of selection and see ideas in the light of harmonisation between plans and implementation. They will develop a critical reflection of their own solutions.
- Film and Television
The duration of the study programme is 3 years (180 ECTS credits). It covers three modules: Film and Television Directing, Cinematography for Film and Television, and Film and Television Editing. The graduates will learn how to face the challenges of their own creativity and aim to achieve professional high tech standards. In accordance with the selected programme, they will acquire competences to act independently and creatively as independent professionals in documentary film, feature film, television drama, television programmes of different formats and other forms of audio-visual programmes. The study programme is organised to enable them to hands-on experience with the professional AV community.
Second Cycle Study Programmes
- Stage Acting
The duration of the study programme is 1 year (60 ECTS credits). It upgrades and boosts the students’ faculty to explore their personal or ensemble acting potentials. By doing so, the students will be empowered to map their own artistic vision and put it into practice. The study programme offers four different fields (Stage Acting, Art of Speech, Theatre Singing and Puppet Acting.). It explores current trends and performing arts theories. Its theoretical framework is constantly being tested by the implementation of projects.
- Dramaturgy and Performing Arts
The duration of the study programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). It combines theoretical and practical work to allow the students to acquire competences needed for independent tasks in dramaturgy, research and artistic activity. The programme links traditional theatre-related knowledge with current achievements in the field of performing arts studies. In addition, the students will gain a solid insight into other fields of arts and mass media as well.
- Theatre and Radio Directing
The duration of the study programme is 1 year (60 ECTS credits). It consists of Theatre Directing and Radio Directing. The student will get to know the design and specifics of a production plan (how to put into practice their ideas and AV designs, agreement on the technical implementation, casting). Furthermore, students will acquire competences related to taking strategic decisions and communicating with the creative team (co-authors, producers, as well as other experts and technical staff) on several pre-production levels in theatre and radio production.
- Film and Television Arts
The duration of the study programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). It offers six modules: Film Directing, Television Directing, Editing, Cinematography, Screenplay Writing and Production. The aim of the programme is to enable its M.A. graduates to be competent in artistic and professional tasks of the most demanding audio-visual projects. The study programme is based on artistic, creative and practical design, pre-production and final implementation of art projects, (M.A. and student productions). It is thus a continuation of the 1st cycle programme of Film and Television, accentuating independent creative output.
- Film and Television Studies
The duration of the study programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). It provides the students with an in-depth knowledge of the audio-visual media and their content from the viewpoint of media as art as well as in terms of psychological, sociological, economic and public administration policies. The acquired competences will enable the graduates to engage successfully in professional audio-visual policies, as well as perform tasks in management, journalism, writing reviews and editing. The basic characteristic of this study programme is the combination of practical artistic knowledge with comprehensive studies of scientific research and theories in the field of the increasingly expanding audio-visual domain.
- Speech Forms
The duration of the study programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). The syllabus provides students with in-depth knowledge of basic laws of speech, particularities of spoken Slovenian language, artistic and non-artistic speech, as well as theoretical and practical communication guidelines for verbal expression in a variety of circumstances. In the course of the study programme, students will get to know the basic principles of scientific research into spoken language and writing professional texts on spoken language. The programme enables them to become independent professionals in the field of speech for Slovenian media, culture-related and research communities. For teachers, it provides professional starting points for more efficient speech performance in the teaching process.
- Scene Design
The duration of the M.A. study programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). It comprises two different modules, namely Set Design and Costume Design. Its aim is to provide artistic and professional training for students who have finished 1st cycle studies at art academies or similar higher education programmes and wish to continue with art projects in set design, costume design, as well as light design. The study programme combines gaining theoretical background and practical experience. It is designed individually, in compliance with the student’s undergraduate knowledge, talent and the proposed M.A. thesis subject.
- Art of Movement
The duration of the study programme is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). It comprises two different modules, the Art of Movement, and Movement in Space (Space in Shape). Content-wise, the programme is diversely designed, yet its features are simultaneously inter-connected from the viewpoint of new professional insights. In addition to dance and theatre practitioners, it offers a chance of gaining education to future dance and theatre theoreticians, as well as experts in other fields who recognise the study of the art of movement to be a useful possibility for connecting with innovative form and content.

- Performing Arts Studies
The duration of the study programme is 4 years (240 ECTS credits). It allows the students to obtain a PhD in the field of Performing Arts Studies. The programme is co-ordinated by the AGRFT within the framework of a joint interdisciplinary PhD study programme called Humanities and Social Sciences. The aim of the programme is to produce highly trained scientists, researches, theoreticians, writers and critics, as well as pedagogues of performing arts. This programme encourages the use of contemporary theoretical approaches and exploring new research topics in performing arts history and theory. - Film and Television Studies
The duration of the study programme is 4 years (240 ECTS credits). It allows the students to obtain a PhD in the field of Film and Television Studies. The programme is co-ordinated by the AGRFT within the framework of a joint interdisciplinary PhD study programme called Humanities and Social Sciences. The aim of the programme is to produce highly qualified scientists, researchers, theorists, writers, critics and pedagogical workers in the field of film and television studies. The study programme focuses on issues of reception, aesthetics, psychology, sociology, economics and politics with a special emphasis on documenting and historicising the contemporary (especially local) field of film and television production.
